Saturday:

i.     Gaston County Cyclists Weekly Saturday Ride – Route changes weekly.  See weekly emails FaceBook posts for updated ride each week. 

1.      Time: 7:30a.m. (always see Facebook Page prior to coming http://goo.gl/VlDYBR )  - Rain or the imminent threat of rain will cancel the ride. 

2.      Start Location: Varies, see our facebook page http://goo.gl/VlDYBR    Start location rotates between 1) Cramerton Middle School  (601 Cramer Mountain Road)     2)  Robinwood Crossing Shopping Center (1690 Neal Hawkins Road)   3)  Bessemer City municipal parking lot (107 E Virginia Ave. Bessemer City, NC)

3.      Speed: 14-18mph average, some slower, some faster.  Groups will split.   

4.      Level: Intermediate (some beginner)  --  Category 3 & 4 

Three alternating start locations, numerous routes with route distances increasing throughout the spring & summer months.

5.      Distance(s): Variable. Usually starts about 25 miles in March and increases to about 80 miles in September.   Group determines.

6.      Drop/NoDrop: NO DROP!!!

8.  This is a enjoyable Saturday ride and a very social ride, with many established area cyclists, and people out to enjoy a ride. Whether you are looking to improve your fitness, health or just want to meet others that share a passion for cycling, this has become a very popular ride. Many of the cyclists use it as a training ride for the MS 150 or other regional rides.  It is NOT a race, nor a fast, race paced ride!

 

i.     Gas House & Gaston County Cyclists Cramerton start Saturday Ride – show and go 

1.      Time: Appx 7:30 am (always see Facebook Page prior to coming http://goo.gl/VlDYBR ) - NO GO if bad weather.  NO GO if charity ride or race that day.

2.      Start Location: Cramerton (parking lot across from South Fork Deli https://goo.gl/maps/6bKOW )

3.      Speed: 17 or 21+ mph (int/adv)

4.      Level: Advanced --  Category 1 & 2

5.      Distance(s): Intermediate go 45mi , advanced go 70+mi

6.      Drop/NoDrop: Drop (modified) - you should be able to go 70mi at 20mph

8.      The routes are Marked.

Sunday

i.  Gaston County Cyclists Sunday Group Ride:  Route HERE

1.      Time: 7:30am Starting on 4/9/17

2.      Start Location: Cramerton Middle School  Google Map HERE 601 Cramer Mountain Rd, Cramerton

3.      Speed: 13-20+ mph

4.      Level: Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced

5.      Distance(s): ~21 miles (can add on after ..as many riders do extra)

6.      Drop/NoDrop: No drop, ever, period!

7.      Notes: Will split into a/b/c groups, very informal, all inclusive.  See FB page prior http://goo.gl/VlDYBR , rolling hills, small hill climbs.  

Re-grouping stops:

1. Presbyterian Church parking lot
2. Intersection of Armstrong Road & New Hope Road (off the road at the stop sign)
3. Cramerton Middle School (in the parking lot)

Note: Faster cyclists go back for the others at the stop sign at the intersection of Armstrong Road & New Hope Road.

iii.      Gaston County Cyclists Sunday Coffee Ride 

1.      Time: Immediately following Sunday Group Ride

2.      Start Location:  Cramerton Middle School  Google Map HERE 601 Cramer Mountain Rd, Cramerton

3.      Speed: 13-15 mph

4.      Level: Beginner -"Relaxed Pace"

5.      Distance(s): Tack on a few extra miles by riding to Gastonia for a coffee and a snack. Enjoy conversation with fellow cyclists.

6.      Drop/NoDrop: No drop, ever, period!

7.      Notes: Ride to coffee shop, relax, ride back. 

 

Monday

1.      Time: 6:00pm roll out

1.      Time: 6pm for faster A group (20mp+)and for B/C group

3.      Speed: 20+mph A Group, 15-20mph B/c Group(s)

4.      Level: All (No B/C Group after 9/21 due to darkness)

5.      Distance(s): 40 miles +/-, B group will do ~20-30

6.      Drop/NoDrop: A group is drop, B group is modified no drop*

***For ALL the rides above***:

*Modified No Drop:  No drop as long as you are somewhat marginally capable of a ride.  i.e. if you show up with a MTB, tennis shoes, a flat tire and ride 8mph, you will be dropped.  In other words, if you make a reasonable effort to try, you won't be dropped.  Please know your capabilities, if you ride 15mph, you'll be dropped on the Saturday Advanced ride.

All of these routes are open to traffic, and most contain at least some sections which are heavily traveled by motorists, particularly in the evenings. Therefore, please participate in these rides only with the understanding that no implication of safety is being made by their posting.

 

Ride Pace Categories

Advanced Level:

Category 1:    20+ mph Aveage. Race pace for very strong riders, pace lines and tight packs.

Category 2:    18-19 mph Average. Fast pace for advanced riders, pace lines, tight packs, rest stops and some re-grouping.

Intermediate Level:

Category 3:    17-18 mph Average. Brisk, steady pace for intermediate and above riders, pace lines, rest stops.

Category 4:    15-16 mph Average. Conversational pace, endurance and skills development, frequent stops for re-grouping.

Novice Level:

Category 5:    12-14 mph Average. Beginner pace, focus on fun, skills and safety. Frequent stops for re-grouping.
